Primary Responsibilities
- Mechanical design of packaging machinery and automation within assigned specifications
- Provides engineering expertise throughout the project and product development lifecycle; from initial concept generation to detailed design, machine development, installation and customer acceptance
- Work with Lead Product Line Designers to identify and implement cost savings in designs/materials
- Manage assigned projects on schedule and within budget
- Ensure Bills of Material are in line with agreed company standards
- Support Sales Department with concept development for future projects
- Specify and integrate OEM equipment in “turn-key” projects
- Is driven by a desire for engineering excellence whilst helping ensure that designs are delivered within agreed cost and time constraints
- Ensure project-related processes are fully adhered to
Secondary responsibilities
- Supervision of mechanical designers throughout detailed design and engineering technicians during the assembly and test of equipment as required
- Provides engineering information by answering questions and requests.
- Take other work tasks as needed by team leader
- Support team development and continues improvement
- Keeps current with latest and emerging industry regulations and codes relative to packaging equipment system design and operation
- Proactively identifies and recommends corrective actions to address engineering quality and cost issues
Physical Demands
- This is a mixed position with work performed in an office environment and on the assembly floor depending on the circumstances and priorities of each day
- Hearing acuity required for safety reasons while on the assembly floor
- Exposure to high noise from machines operating nearby during visits to the assembly floor
- Depending on the circumstances work is done while sitting down (office work) or standing up (on assembly floor)
- Required to work with computer for prolonged periods of time
Working Conditions & Environment
- Occasional travel to customer sites may be required
- Expected 40 hour workweek
- Long working hours may be necessary on occasion in order to comply with deadlines (internal and external)
- This position requires the employee to attend work properly groomed and dressed. according to the position

Hardware & Software Requirements
- One desktop computer, keyboard, mouse, and desk phone
- Relevant software, includes Dayforce, Concur, AutoCAD, Inventor, SmarTeam/Vault
- 100% adherence to company computer policy is required
Knowledge & Skills Required
- University Mechanical Engineering Education (preferred)
- A minimum of 5 years mechanical design experience
- Innovative thinker
- Mechanical engineering experience in the field of automation/industrial machinery (Packaging Machinery experience is an additional asset)
- Good knowledge and understanding of design standards.
- Good level of computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel & Project)
- CAD design experience (2D or 3D – Autodesk Inventor)
- Good understanding of manufacturing & assembly processes
